Often, while buying an apple or any other fruit from the market, you must have noticed that a sticker is pasted on it. When we take the apple home and cut it to eat, many times it happens that the place where the sticker is pasted is rotten or bad. Or if you have bought an expensive apple, it is possible that it is not bad and the shopkeeper has sold it to you saying that it is an export quality apple, the best, that is why it is expensive and we also believe it after seeing the sticker. But let us tell you that the meaning of the sticker is neither covering the bad part nor the best quality, but it is completely different.
After buying apples with stickers, neither do we read the things written on these stickers nor do we ever think about the meaning of putting stickers on every apple? This is the reason why 99 percent of people do not know why stickers are stuck on apples. Let us tell you today.

Amulya Nagendra, a well-known naturopath of Delhi, says that not only apples but oranges are also getting stickers these days. Seeing the shiny apples with stickers, people often think that these will definitely be expensive. Many times shopkeepers also charge more for apples with stickers, whereas the sticker is directly related to health, not the price. Whenever you go to buy apples, do read the sticker on the apple because it contains such information which tells you what you are eating?
All this happens in the sticker
Nagendra says that in addition to the price and expiry date, a PLU i.e. Price look-up code is written on the stickers pasted on the fruits. This code indicates the quality of the fruit and tells how this fruit has been grown. There are 3 major special codes in the PLU code.
Codes starting with 4…
Some apples or fruits have a four digit number written on the sticker. This code starts with the number 4, like 4026, 4987 etc. This means that such fruits have been grown with pesticides and chemicals. Pesticides have been used a lot in them. These fruits are the cheapest. Eating them means that you are buying fruits that have been grown with fertilizers and pesticides.
Codes starting with 8…
Some fruits have five digit numbers written on their stickers, but the code starts with 8, like 84131 or 86532 etc. It is clear from this that these fruits have been genetically modified. These fruits are also not organic and are known as GM crop fruits. These can be a little more expensive than those with pesticides, they have both advantages and disadvantages.
Codes starting with the digit 9
Some fruits have a 5 digit code starting with 9. For example, 93435 is written on the fruit. This means that these fruits are grown organically. No pesticides are used in them. This is called the safest fruit and apart from being expensive in price, it is also excellent for health.
Identify fake stickers too
Amulya Nagendra says that nowadays in the Indian markets, stickers are pasted on apples and oranges etc. but instead of any code written on them, words like export quality, best quality or premium quality are written on them. These are fake stickers. These are pasted to deceive the buyers and such glue is used in them which is perishable. In such a situation, whenever you buy such apples, buy them with care and wash them thoroughly in hot water before eating. Also, cut and remove the skin of the place with the sticker with a knife.
